COTABATO CITY, Philippines โ Minimum wage earners in the Bangsamoro region will receive a two-tranche, 50-peso daily wage increase this year, regional officials announced Wednesday.
Members of the Bangsamoro Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (BTWPB) signed the new wage order Wednesday morning at the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE-BARMM) regional office in Cotabato City.
The wage order covers the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), which includes the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi, as well as the cities of Lamitan, Marawi, and Cotabato.
Under the new order, non-agriculture workers in the cities of Lamitan, Marawi, and Cotabato will see their daily wage rise from 411 pesos to 436 pesos effective July 15. A second 25-peso increase on Dec. 1 will bring their daily rate to 461 pesos.
Daily pay for agricultural, retail, and service establishment workers in those three cities will increase from 386 pesos to 411 pesos, before rising to 436 pesos on Dec. 1.
In the region’s five provinces, the daily wage for non-agriculture workers will increase from 386 pesos to 411 pesos, eventually reaching 436 pesos on Dec. 1.
Agricultural and retail workers in the provinces, who currently earn 376 pesos daily, will see their wages increase to 401 pesos, and then to 426 pesos in December.
Labor Minister Muslimin Sema said the wage order will take effect 15 days after its publication in a newspaper of regional circulation.
Sema said the 50-peso total adjustment was the result of extensive consultations and dialogues between employers and labor sector representatives.
The wage order was signed by workers’ representative Jonathan Acosta; employer representatives Haron Bandila and Joseph Go; board chairpersons Mohajirin Ali and Farserina Mohammad; and Sema.
