Indian National Arrested in Zamboanga Sibugay Over Violations of Law Protecting Women and Children

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY— Police arrested an Indian national in this town after a court issued a warrant accusing him of three counts of allegedly violating the Philippines’ law protecting women and children from violence. 

The arrest was carried out under a valid judicial warrant, police said, although authorities did not disclose the specific allegations or circumstances behind the three cases filed under Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

The suspect is now being held in police custody while the cases move through the courts.

Arrest comes amid a separate operation against an Indian national

The arrest in Ipil came on the same day as a separate operation by the PNP and Bureau of Immigration in Baguio City, where another Indian national was arrested over alleged immigration violations.

The two operations were separate, but authorities stressed the importance of following proper procedures when dealing with foreign nationals accused of breaking Philippine laws.

“Foreign nationals who are in the country are expected to follow our laws, just as we do,” police said. “Kapag may legal basis for an arrest, we will act accordingly, but we will also make sure that the process is properly observed and their rights are respected.”

Police said the operation forms part of the PNP’s Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes swift intervention, coordination among law enforcement agencies, and strict compliance with legal procedures.

The suspect remains presumed innocent

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, authorities stressed that the accused remains entitled to due process and all legal protections under Philippine law.

His arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, and the allegations will ultimately be resolved by the proper court.
