IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — Gov. Ann Hofer secured a second term as Zamboanga Sibugay governor, with most of her allies dominating the 2025 midterm elections.
The Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed Hofer and her allies on May 13.
As of May 14, with 99.04% of election returns canvassed, Hofer received 209,751 votes, defeating rival Board Member Yvonne Palma, who got 128,459 votes.
Hofer’s candidate for vice governor won. Board Member Richard Olegario won the vice gubernatorial race with 174,051 votes over Chanti Olegario who got 122,604. Both belong to one of the influential political clans in the province.
Eight of the 10 candidates for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan under Hofer’s coalition, Nagkahiusang Sibugaynon, won seats.
In the 1st District, all of Hofer’s candidates for board members swept the elections. In the 2nd District, however, two of her allies lost.
Political newcomers Sofia Schuck and Dante Oporto failed to complete the sweep. Schuck placed sixth with 65,739 votes, while Oporto ranked eighth. Each district elects five board members.
Two candidates from Hofer’s rival slate won in the 2nd District: Vic Javier with 88,728 votes and Nathaniel Eudela with 70,946.
In the 1st District, re-electionist board member Jung-Jung Yanga topped the race for Sangguniang Panlalawigan with 72,516 votes. In the 2nd District, former judge Glen Sabijon led with 99,478 votes.
The coalition also clinched victories in both congressional races.
Board Member and lawyer Marlo Bancoro defeated re-electionist former Gov. Wilter Palma in the 1st District congressional race, 81,104 votes to 63,436.
In the 2nd District, physician Marly Hasim garnered 92,153 votes, defeating incumbent Rep. Antonieta Eudela, who received 71,448.
