DIPOLOG CITY, Philippines — The family of Romeo “Nonong” Garcia Jalosjos has announced the death of the longtime media executive and former public official, remembering him as a leader whose decades of public service and commitment to community development left a lasting mark on Zamboanga del Norte.
In a statement released Sunday, Seth Frederick Pal Jalosjos, speaking on behalf of the family, said his father died after a lifetime devoted to public service, describing him as a “distinguished media man, statesman, visionary and pioneer.”
The family did not disclose the cause, date, or place of death.
His family and associates remembered the former public official as a leader who dedicated his career to serving the people of Zamboanga del Norte through both public office and the media industry. “To the people of Zamboanga del Norte, he was more than a public servant—he was a leader who listened, a champion of the underserved, and a father to his people,” the statement said.
His desire to improve lives and create opportunities for future generations, rather than personal ambition, motivated his work, the family said.
The announcement described Jalosjos as a father, mentor and source of strength whose wisdom, generosity and resilience shaped his family’s lives.
His family said they hope people will remember him not only for the positions he held but for the lives he touched through his service and acts of kindness.
His legacy, the statement said, lives on in the communities he helped build, the people he inspired and the values he instilled in his family and those who worked with him.
The Jalosjos family also thanked friends, supporters and the public for their prayers, messages of sympathy and expressions of support following the announcement. “Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his remarkable life will continue to inspire generations to come,” the family said.
