AI-Generated Video Attack Targets BARMM Lawmakers Ahead of 2026 Parliamentary Elections

Hundreds of supporters of Bangsamoro Parliament Member Naguib Sinarimbo have condemned an AI-generated video circulating on social media that falsely portrays him making offensive remarks.

Supporters said the video manipulated Sinarimbo’s statements by replacing his voice with what they described as an artificial voice-over. Information technology professionals and computer science experts who reviewed the clip said the audio appeared to be digitally generated and overlaid onto the video, making it seem as though Sinarimbo was speaking.

Sinarimbo, a lawyer, previously served as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s minister of local government. He was appointed by Malacaรฑang last year to the 80-member Bangsamoro Parliament.

He also serves as chairperson of the Cotabato City chapter of the Bangsamoro Federalist Party, one of the political parties accredited by the Commission on Elections to participate in the Sept. 14, 2026, Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.

BARMM Health Minister Kadil Sinolinding Jr., an ophthalmologist and fellow member of the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament, has also become the target of an AI-generated social media video that supporters say falsely depicts him making statements he never made.

Friends and supporters of Sinolinding denounced the video as defamatory and misleading, saying the voice in the recording does not match his and that the content is fabricated.

The authenticity of the videos has not been independently verified, and no information was immediately available on who created or distributed them.
