Missing Vlogger’s Case Takes a Grim Turn: Police Suspect Eastman Died After Abduction

Authorities now suspect that Elliot Eastman, an American YouTuber abducted in Zamboanga del Norte, may have died in the aftermath of his kidnapping. Despite ongoing efforts, Eastman’s body remains missing, leaving unanswered questions and heartbreak for his loved ones.

Eastman, a Vermont native and popular content creator, was abducted on October 17 in Sibuco town. Four armed men, posing as officers, stormed in and forcibly took him, shooting him in the leg when he resisted, according to police reports.

Lt. Col. Ramoncelio Sawan, acting spokesperson for the Police Regional Office (PRO) 9, shed light on the case during a Thursday interview.

“We want to believe that Elliot Eastman died because of the testimonies we got from a witness and one of the suspects,” Sawan revealed.

One of the suspects, in an extrajudicial confession last month, claimed that Eastman died and that his body was discarded in the waters near Zamboanga City. This account aligns with a witness statement given in October.

A Search Without Closure

Despite these leads, the search for Eastman’s body has yielded no results.

“We’ve combed the coasts and nearby islands, but still, we haven’t found anything,” Sawan said, acknowledging the frustration of the ongoing search.

The police are continuing their coordination with the U.S. Embassy and maritime authorities, holding onto hope that more clues will emerge.

A New Life Cut Short

Eastman, who had been living in the Philippines for five months, had recently married a Filipina from Sibuco. His cheerful presence and travel videos had garnered a loyal following on YouTube, making his disappearance all the more shocking.

In October, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) joined the investigation, emphasizing the international stakes in solving the case.

The Pursuit of Justice

On October 29, complaints of kidnapping and serious illegal detention were filed against six suspects. Police have since arrested three individuals, while the other three remain at large.

In a separate but related development, three individuals linked to a kidnap-for-ransom group were killed in a November 12 clash in Zamboanga Sibugay. Police believe they were also involved in Eastman’s abduction.

The Motive Remains a Mystery

As the investigation continues, authorities remain puzzled about the motive behind Eastman’s kidnapping. Was it ransom? Revenge? Or something else entirely?

For now, what’s clear is the tragic loss of a life full of promise and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to uncover the truth.

Holding Onto Hope

Even as the case grows colder, Eastman’s family, friends, and followers cling to hope for answers—and for closure. Anyone with information is urged to come forward, as authorities vow to keep their lines open and their search active.
