Ipil installs P3.4-M AI-powered security cameras in key commercial areas

ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY, Philippines – The municipality of Ipil has begun installing its first batch of high-technology security cameras in the town’s commercial district, a move local officials say is aimed at boosting public safety and modernizing surveillance systems.

Mayor Ramses Troy Olegario said the installation, which kicked off on Friday, November 14, is part of a broader push to prepare the fast-growing capital town for increased economic activity.

“Security is of utmost priority in Ipil, especially as we continue to grow as a developing municipality and as the center of trade and commerce not only in Zamboanga Sibugay but also in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula,” Olegario said.

The first phase covers the town’s central business district – including major intersections, marketplaces, and main thoroughfares – areas that see the highest volume of people and vehicles.

The P3.4-million system includes state-of-the-art cameras equipped with facial recognition, night vision, speed detection, and artificial intelligence (AI) functions. The devices can capture clear images from up to 300 meters away and provide continuous still-image recording, giving law enforcement and emergency teams sharper tools for real-time monitoring.

“By investing in a modern CCTV system, we’re ensuring that our residents, visitors, and investors can feel safer and more confident in our community,” said Olegario.

The local government said it plans to expand CCTV coverage throughout the municipality in 2025, with additional funding expected from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
