CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY โ An 82-year-old man died after becoming trapped inside his burning home in a subdivision in Barangay Camaman, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Eddie del Rosario, a resident of Adela Subdivision.
The fire broke out at about 10 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection. Officials said the blaze spread quickly through the house, fueled in part by intense heat.
Neighbors said the elderly man initially escaped the fire. But he went back inside to save important belongings.
He was then trapped as flames engulfed the house.
Authorities said he was overcome by smoke and suffered severe burns. His body was later found in a comfort room on the second floor, badly charred.
The fire reached second alarm and damaged six houses in the neighborhood, officials said.
Firefighters later brought the blaze under control.
Investigators said the fire may have started in the kitchen, possibly from unattended cooking left on a stove.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the cause remains under investigation. Authorities are also assessing the damage caused by the fire.
