IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — A 20-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly selling substandard computers and cellphones valued at nearly P2 million.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the suspect was found in possession of electronic devices that were not type-approved by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), making them illegal for sale under consumer protection laws.
NTC type approval is a certification that ensures telecommunications and electronic devices meet technical and safety standards before being sold in the Philippines. Devices without this approval are considered substandard, as they may not comply with regulations on radio frequency use, network compatibility, and consumer safety.
Authorities seized around 35 cellphones, 10 tablets, and two laptops with an estimated total value of over P1.9 million.
The CIDG lauded its personnel for cracking down on the illegal trade of computers and cellphones without proper government clearances.
“The accomplishment underscores the CIDG’s commitment to fighting all forms of illegal trading nationwide. We assure the public that we remain resolute in enforcing the law to protect consumers and unwavering against violators and criminals,” the agency said.
