TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato โ€” Residents of remote sitios in Barangay Tablu expressed gratitude after Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) brought its community outreach program to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) last month.

The initiative covered Sitio Tokaymal, Bato/Quiapo, Datal Mangisi, Logdeck, and Manggaโ€”communities where access to basic goods and essential services remains limited due to distance and terrain.

According to reports from Central Mindanao media outlets, SMI distributed food packs containing rice, sugar, coffee, and other staples to help ease the daily burden on families. The outreach also included maternity and newborn kits for expectant mothers and infants. It also includes hygiene kits for children to promote better health and sanitation.

For residents like Rowena Basas of Sitio Tokaymal, the outreach was met with deep gratitude, as the assistance brought immediate relief to daily struggles. โ€œWe are truly grateful to SMI for their help, especially the rice. It is a big support given the situation we are facing,โ€ she said in a mix of Cebuano and Hiligaynon language, echoing the sentiments of many beneficiaries in the community.

The activity forms part of SMIโ€™s continuing programs aimed at supporting remote communities in the areas of health, nutrition, and livelihood, with the goal of fostering more inclusive and resilient development.

SMI is strengthening its ties with host communities through sustained engagement in hard-to-reach areas, as residents say this support improves everyday life in underserved locations.
