Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized P3.4 million worth of shabu during a Marawi City operation.
PDEA-Bangsamoro Region Director Gil Cesario Castro confirmed the suspects were caught in Barangay Matampay on Saturday, January 18.
The sting, conducted with local officials and Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr., ensnared the traffickers.
Undercover agents bought half a kilo of shabu from the suspects during a carefully coordinated operation.
Police Special Action Force units and Lanao del Sur police operatives supported the operation, ensuring the suspects’ swift arrest.
This operation highlights the Marcos administration’s recalibrated approach to the drug war, focusing on high-level traffickers over small-time users.
The traffickers, now detained, face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has shifted from the controversial methods of the previous administration, prioritizing rehabilitation and strategic enforcement.
PDEA’s success underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle the drug trade while addressing broader societal impacts in a more humane manner.
