Residents can bring local concerns directly to government representatives during the House of Representatives’ LegisHear: Bawat Batas Mahalaga initiative in Ipil on Nov. 28-29.
The two-day activity aims to connect legislative consultations with public service delivery, giving residents a platform to raise community issues, propose policy recommendations and seek access to government programs.
For communities that often struggle to navigate government offices or reach national decision-makers with local concerns, the initiative offers a venue for dialogue between citizens and the institutions responsible for making laws and delivering public services.
LegisHear is a nationwide House of Representatives initiative that brings community perspectives into legislative discussions. It gives residents opportunities to explain how policies and government programs affect their daily lives and to identify gaps that may need legislative or administrative attention.
In Zamboanga Sibugay, the consultations could help surface concerns affecting disadvantaged sectors and residents who face barriers to accessing public assistance. Participation by national government agencies and local government units is also expected to connect community needs with available programs and services.
However, the initiative’s impact will depend on whether concerns raised during the consultations receive appropriate follow-up, whether agencies can respond to residents’ needs and whether recommendations translate into concrete policy or service improvements.
Preparations for the event are underway. A total of 46 representatives from national government agencies, local government units and the offices of the congressional representatives of Zamboanga Sibugay’s first and second districts attended an initial coordination meeting.
The meeting covered the planned activities, the scope of agency participation and logistical arrangements for the town hall meeting and related activities.
The two-day event will bring together government representatives and community stakeholders to discuss issues affecting local communities and explore possible responses through existing government programs and legislative processes.
Organizers have yet to announce the complete schedule, the specific services participating agencies will offer and the process for tracking concerns raised during the consultations.
The measure of LegisHear’s success will extend beyond attendance. Its value will ultimately depend on whether community voices are heard, concerns are referred to the appropriate offices and government agencies provide clear responses or action where warranted.
