A father and his daughter survived a harrowing road incident when their van plunged off a cliff on Friday, January 3.
The police identified the victims as 60-year-old Hersole Pasuquin and his 28-year-old daughter Herjene. They sustained only minor injuries in the incident.
According to police reports, the father and daughter are residents of Barangay Malubal, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay. They were heading home from a nearby town aboard their dark blue Mitsubishi Delica van. Around 8:00 PM, while navigating a steep uphill stretch of road, the vanโs engine abruptly stalled when the driver attempted to shift to low gear.
The sudden loss of control sent the van careening backward before it plummeted into a nearby ravine. Miraculously, both the driver and passenger emerged with only minor injuries.
Emergency responders promptly brought the couple to the R.T. Lim Municipal Health Office for medical attention.
Authorities are investigating the incident and are urging motorists to remain vigilant, especially when driving on challenging terrain. Regular vehicle maintenance, particularly of critical systems like the engine and brakes, is crucial to preventing accidents like this.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, Hersole and Herjene expressed gratitude for surviving the incident with their lives intact. “It could have been so much worse,” a family member shared.
