DepEd Supervisor Killed in Zamboanga Sibugay Shooting

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — A district supervisor of the Department of Education was shot dead Thursday evening in Alicia town, Zamboanga Sibugay, in what police described as a close-range attack carried out by unidentified gunmen.

The victim, Rey Dalaota Camaingking, 45, was walking toward his motorcycle at Guicam Port in Sitio Guicam, Barangay Dawa-Dawa, shortly after 7:30 p.m. when two men approached and opened fire, according to investigators.

Camaingking, a resident of Nesoricom Village in Barangay Magdaup, Ipil, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Responding officers found him lying on the ground, bleeding heavily. The police declared him dead at the scene.

Investigators said the attackers used a .45-caliber pistol before fleeing aboard a black Honda XRM motorcycle toward Barangay Kawayan in Alicia.

Camaingking served as a district supervisor for the Department of Education in Zamboanga Sibugay. His killing sent shock waves through local education and government circles, where colleagues described him as a dedicated public servant.

Authorities said the motive for the attack remained unclear as of Friday morning.

Police have launched a manhunt operation and are reviewing possible leads. They are investigating whether the killing has something to do with Camaingking’s work or personal affairs.

The Philippines has long grappled with gun violence and politically linked killings in parts of Mindanao, where local officials, educators, journalists, and government employees have at times become targets of armed attacks.
