MARAWI CITY, Philippines — The Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) on Tuesday, February 10, distributed medical and emergency response equipment to 25 barangay local government units (BLGUs) in Lanao del Sur to strengthen frontline health services.
The assistance is part of the Bangsamoro Integrated Rehabilitation and Development Program funded through the Special Development Fund (SDF), the MILG said.
The turnover follows the earlier distribution of 90 rescue vehicles to selected barangays across the province, as part of efforts to improve disaster preparedness and enhance local governments’ capacity to respond to emergencies.
Each beneficiary barangay received diagnostic and medical equipment, including a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, handheld micro-ultrasound device, thermometer, urine analyzer, testing kits for blood glucose, uric acid, and total cholesterol, hemoglobinometer, height and weight scales, stethoscope, and a diagnostic instrument kit.
A laptop and printer were also provided to support patient profiling and data management.
Engr. Abdul Rahman Kara, chief of the MILG Planning Division, said the initiative underscores the role of partnerships in strengthening emergency response systems in the Bangsamoro region.
“Through our development partners and line agencies, including our BLGUs, we aim to transform and improve the disaster and emergency response system of the region,” Kara said.
He added that the ministry plans to expand the program to reach more communities, particularly those in far-flung and underserved areas.
The MILG said the equipment will help improve early detection of medical conditions, strengthen emergency interventions, and ensure timely referral of patients to higher-level health facilities.
