Sinarimbo Office Distributes Rice To Moro Communities Ahead Of Ramadan In BARMM

COTABATO CITY, Philippines โ€” Four days before the start of Ramadan, the office of a Bangsamoro parliament member distributed rice to hundreds of Moro residents in parts of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), local officials said.

Nearly 300 residents โ€” including several ustadz, or Islamic teachers โ€” from Barangay Datu Binasing in Pahamuddin, part of the BARMM Special Geographic Area in Cotabato province, received rice on Tuesday from the staff of Bangsamoro Parliament Member Naguib Sinarimbo.

Sinarimbo previously served as BARMM local government minister before his appointment to the 80-seat Bangsamoro Parliament last year by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The BARMM Darul Iftah, a council of Islamic theologians, earlier declared February 19 as the start of Ramadan, the holy month in Islam observed through fasting from dawn to dusk by physically able Muslims.

Sinarimboโ€™s office began the rice distribution on Monday, February 16, during an outreach mission in Barangay Rosary Heights 13 in Cotabato City, the regional capital of BARMM. Community leaders said many residents in the village benefited from the assistance.

Barangay officials in Rosary Heights 13 and Datu Binasing said the Ramadan rice distribution was carried out in coordination with BARMM Chief Minister Abdulrauf Macacua.

Ramadan is considered one of the five pillars of Islam and is marked by prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.
