ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines โ Maj. Gen. Alvin V. Luzon officially took command of the Army’s 10th Infantry (Agila) Division during a Change of Command Ceremony Wednesday at the divisionโs grandstand in Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr., Barangay Tuboran, Mawab, Davao de Oro.
Luzon is a member of the Philippine Military Academy โBantay-Layaโ Class of 1994 and a magna cum laude graduate. He has spent much of his career in Mindanao, holding key leadership positions in the Philippine Army.
In his assumption speech, Luzon pledged to sustain the gains in maintaining an insurgency-free region, emphasizing unity and shared purpose among the โAgila Troopers.โ
โLike an eagle in flight, our Division must move with unity, purpose, and strengthโeach wing, each feather, each movement working in harmony toward a common goal,โ he said.
Following the ceremony, Luzon presided over his first Command Conference, introducing his leadership mantra, A.G.I.L.A., which stands for Accountability, Growth, Integrity, Loyalty, and Achievement through Excellence. The philosophy aims to promote discipline, competence, and mission-focused operations among troops.
Luzonโs return to Davao marks a familiar chapter in his career. He previously served as Brigade Executive Officer of the 105th Infantry Brigade in Basilan, later realigned under the 10th Infantry Division as the 1003rd Infantry (Raptor) Brigade.
He has also led major counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in the region, most notably as commander of the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade in Basilan.
Luzon played a key role in neutralizing Mudzrimar โMundiโ Sawadjaan, a notorious Abu Sayyaf operative, contributing to the declaration of Basilan as Abu Sayyaf Group-free on June 9, 2025. (with reports from Nonoy Lacson/ edited: amm)
