ICSC and Bohol Government Join Forces for Climate Action and Energy Transition

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) and the provincial government of Bohol have officially partnered to advance climate action and energy transition efforts in the province. The commitment was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by ICSC Executive Director Angelo Kairos dela Cruz and Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado.

This collaboration aims to drive low-carbon solutions by leveraging data-driven research, capacity-building programs, and the establishment of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. These inventories will serve as a crucial component of Bohol’s enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (eLCCAP). The plan will ensure a more targeted and strategic approach to climate mitigation and adaptation.

Climate Action

Under the agreement, ICSC will play a key role in supporting the development of Bohol’s eLCCAP and Local Energy Plan. Additionally, the institute will aid in expanding the province’s sustainable transport initiatives and increasing the adoption of renewable energy.

Meanwhile, the Bohol government will spearhead the implementation of these initiatives among local government units (LGUs) and key stakeholders.

Bohol Environment Management Office (BEMO) Head Jovencia Ganub emphasized the importance of this long-awaited partnership. She said ICSC’s technical expertise and experience in climate and energy policy as vital to the success of the projects.

She also outlined the next steps, including capacity-building workshops to enhance awareness and understanding of climate action and energy transition among LGUs and stakeholders.

Model for Climate Resilience

The MOU signing took place on March 17, 2025, at Bohol Provincial Capitol, Tagbilaran City. Representatives from Bohol’s provincial sectoral offices, ICSC, and the Bohol Association of Non-Government Organizations (BANGON) attended the event.
